  3. I am truly convinced now that medications for alcoholism are now being pursed as the real and legitimate course of action to eliminate alcoholism. Of course, Baclofen was the beginning of this assault on alcoholism, and now, we are continuing to see new research being conducted -all based upon the original baclofen studies.

  4. I agree but I was watching news about a Hep C drug, Sovaldi, which is costing patients $85,000 for a course of treatment. The issue is that baclofen is cheap but drug companies are only interested in products they can develop and then recoup profits from, in the range of $billions. That’s why they aren’t interested in baclofen and are trying to move on to other drugs which can generate them a profit. The money involved means they aren’t interested in helping baclofen and also, they have the financial and political power. They also have media contacts and advertising which baclofen supporters don’t have. That’s why this is a public heath issue which governments and doctors have to act on now and not wait for some development which isn’t going to come because the key players don’t have a financial incentive to do anything.

  5. I love the site! I am just beginning my baclofen journey, and will continue to post progress updates on my blog (see below). In the short time I’ve started taking baclofen, I’ve already noticed extremely positive results. Anyone who’s interested can stop by to check it out.

I hope to hear from anyone who is either currently using baclofen for the treatment of their addiction, or anyone who is planning on doing so.

Thanks again for this incredibly informative site!

    • There are a number of people who are involved in promoting this issue. Many are on the My Way Out forum. I am waiting for word from a doctor in Paris about further developments which should move this treatment to the next level. The trials of the drug are likely to be finished and the drug licensed for use. At present it is now a recommended treatment for alcoholism by all doctors in France after the alcohol agency there issued a temporary recommendation for use, “RTU”, earlier this year pending the completion of further trial results. The trial ended in the spring and the results are being prepared for submission to the government.

There will be a new English language baclofen user site and forum and I will try to keep everyone updated with developments.

  7. I am taking Baclofen and have been for about 8 months after reading Dr. Ameisens book.My alcoholism and drug use has a very long history but with the use of Baclofen I seem to have had both of these lifelong issues arrested.I am in Australia and have only just stumbled across this website after first trying to get into contact with other people being treated with Baclofen in the US of which I did not find any.I really need to communicate with other people undergoing this treatment as I have a few questions and as far as I know I am the only person in Australia taking Baclofen for drug addiction and alcoholism. It was a huge ordeal to get a Dr. to prescribe it for me and when he did he told me that I was the Australian guinea pig.Long story short he became very nasty and I have chosen not to see him anymore.I have a local Dr. now who is happy to be prescribing me the Baclofen for the time being but has issues with the dose that I am on and told me last time I saw him that he would like for me to come off it.He has also stated that he does not know anything about Baclofen being used as a treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction.
Baclofen is working for me just as described in Dr. Ameisens book,I have PTSD and according to the psychologists I developed this condition as a small child, therefore have lived a life of extreme anxiety.I find that the first thing that Baclofen does for me is allow myself to feel comfortable in my own skin which lessens the chances of me wanting to drink or drug, but secondarily it has also reduced any craving for me to do either of these things aswell.
Please respond if this website is still active I have no one to talk to about these things.
Thanks and looking forward to meeting others in my boat Stevo in Australia.

  8. I’ve been taking my husband’s prescription of baclofen, since he is in a Christian men’s rehab for 60 days and he gave me permission to try it out. Also, because I read dr. Ameisen’s testimony online, I wanted to try it out. One of my triggers to drink too much, other than my husband’s severe alcoholism Is living too solitary. Recently, I traveled down to see my sisters and brothers in Texas. I found that with family support and accountability, the baclofen has helped me with anxiety, insomnia and the side effects of Adderal. I halved my dosage of adderal now. I felt totally indifferent to alcohol and did not miss it or care about it. I also stopped taking ambien for sleep. I’m finding I can add a Xanax to baclofen if I feel anxiety, or I add one at night if I can’t sleep. I’m going to stick with the lower dosage of baclofen, that is, 3 10mg, 3 times a day if my doctor will prescribe it to me. If he won’t, then I will go through Debbiethecoach.com. Her parents own a pharmacy in Canada and I don’t need a prescription for treatment of reliance on alcohol for anxiety and complex PTSD symptoms. I’ve been taking about 2 10 mg 2 times per day with my other medicines but have read there can be complications if I stop baclofen abruptly, so I need a doctor who can help me monitor the treatment.

  10. Greetings from Canada.
Congratulations on the website. We’re going to need all the help we can get 🙂
We’re starting to get organized in Canada and I setup a blog baclofenblog.com to inform the public and medical community on the advantages of using baclofen to treat alcoholism compared to other current methods.
I’m really interested in a collaboration since in the end, it’s the strength of the numbers that will make a difference.
Email me so we can discuss this further.

  12. Finally I can start with baclofen. I live in Holland and the use of baclofen against addictions is not as common yet here as it should be, despite of all the proof that baclofen actually works! Probably I can start this week already and I am very hopeful. I will let you know about my findings. I suffer from cannabis and alcohol addiction for a long long time. I quit April 24, 2010 without any help or medication as one of my sisters was having treatment in a clinic for her addictions. I relapsed after about 3 years and since then I relapse and quit, relapse and quit again. I feel desperate about this situation. Hope to have news about baclofen soon.

  13. Great that this website is available. I do the best I can with my Dutch website http://www.nulpromille.nl. Baclofen in the treatment of alcohol dependence works roughly for two third of the alcoholics. This makes it by far the most effective medicine in the battle against alcoholism. It takes way too much time to get generally accepted by the mainstream alcohol treatment industry. But there is pretty good progress and there is nothing that eventually can stop it. Feel free to contact me via my website.

  17. We are based in the UK, West London and have found a psychiatrist in the Hillingdon Drug and Alcohol service who is willing to prescribe Baclofen for my partner’s alcoholism. The problem is that he won’t prescribe more than 30mg a day as he reports that he is bound by the policies of the local health authority. We have now decided to buy the extra Baclofen needed online and were wondering if anyone can recommend a good online pharmacy who provide authentic baclofen at an affordable price?

Would be most grateful for any feedback on this …

  19. Hi Fiona

The Mywayout Forum does have a number of people who live in the UK and some may have doctors who prescribe. Most end up going to Dr. Jonathan Chick in Edinburgh as he does prescribe over 100 mg and he is a specialist so he will advise your GP to increase your dosage.

River Island and On-line Pharmacy are good internet pharmacies.

  20. I have been one of the main contributors on Mywayout forum medical section for the past 6 years. There is still a huge problem with getting prescriptions in the UK. The GMC has said that there is no problem with prescribing this off licence and if a doctor and patient decide to go over the 100 mg/day guideline then that is fine. The real problem for the doctor should be that he is putting his ethical commitments behind those of a prescribing trust who don’t look at the ethical and medical issues, but just at the guidelines. I can get baclofen over the counter at a local pharmacy where I live for about £6 a box of 78 tablets but people are being forced to pay huge amounts for this on-line.

Apart from Jonathan Chick, I am not aware of any doctors who are prescribing baclofen and making this public in any way in the UK so it is very much a matter of either using Dr. Chick or internet supplies, or just hunting around for a doctor who will prescribe after doing the research.

  23. I’ve been looking for others on Baclofen
I’ve read it’s great for addiction due to it affecting the central nervous system and the reward centre in the brain
It can switch it off so your not dependant on an addiction
My addiction is food but having known a few people who depend on alcohol I’ve had moments myself when I’ve adjusted to stronger and stronger levels of alcohol.
    Alcohol also stopped my tremors
I’m not a drinker at heart and food is my drug of choice
I’ve waited 16 years to see a neuro as was with a psychiatrist
All the pills I tried for the tremors made me even hungrier
Finally without even knowing Baclofen existed I’ve been prescribed it as a muscle relaxer
I’m so happy It may stop my food addiction
I can go up to 60 mg a day in the next fortnight and it does read I can take up to 100mg
If this works on my tremors and addiction
    Iam usually addicted to shopping/food/etc
    Have anxiety low moods nervousness
    Social phobia
If this works anything towards this
I’m holding my breath right now!

    • Hi and thanks for your post. There are quite a few people taking baclofen who are members of two English language forums. One is MyWayOut and the other is TheEndofMyAddiction. They are largely the same people. There’s also a very active French language site called AUBES. Baclofen is a very useful medication for anxiety and the more researchers look into it, neurlogical anxiety seems to be central to so many illnesses. It’s been found to help with autism, self-harming and, when combined with Campral, Alzheimers and Parkinson’s disease. There have been some studies on eating disorders as well. The dosage is highly individual. It can help to talk to people on the forums to get some idea of whether you are on the right track or to find people with similar experiences. Best wishes and good luck.

    • Hi John, My wife has used baclofen for spasticity resulting from a stroke which causes her to suffer from tremors and stiffness but this site and the forums linked are only for those wanting to find out about the use of baclofen for alcoholism. That’s because it’s a new development as of about 10 years ago and in most countries baclofen is not licensed for use for alcoholism and there are hardly any doctors who will treat alcoholism with baclofen. In relation to the use of baclofen for spasticity, this is what baclofen is usually prescribed for and most doctors should be able to help you or recommend a specialist who can. You aren’t likely to find users of baclofen for spasticity on any of the addiction web sites unless they are also alcoholics.

I suggest you google for forums for sufferers from spasticity rather than baclofen users as I don’t think you will find any forums devoted exclusively to baclofen use in spasticity. If you do go to the linked forums such as MyWayOut and TheEndofMyAddiction, you may find a few people who also have spasticity but also you will find a lot of information about side effects but you will have to search through a lot of threads and, to be honest, I don’t recall the topic coming up over the many years I’ve been on those forums. Best of luck anyway.
